After hearing numerous accounts of how godly their chicken was, I decided it was finally time to see what all the commotion was about. L.A. Chicken is tucked away in this tiny little shopping complex near No. 5 Road in Richmond, so unless you were deliberately trying to find it, you’ll be on a fruitless search lol.
For $8, you get a drumstick, a thigh and a side (can get macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw, or rice). Starting with the fries, as usual, I found them to be nice and hot, though they were pretty bland..and had the consistency of the frozen variety but whatever I guess. It came with this cup of gravy that looked a LOT like the kind you get at KFC but dayum, it had quite the kick to it! (me thinks the cracked pepper did the trick there).
The batter of the chicken was very homestyle and crunchy (super tasty!), though I found the meat inside, itself, to be very bland, albeit juicy. Fried chicken is probably lost on me because I generally tend to just rip the skin off and eat only the meat (the skin adds a lot of calories to it!).
Here’s another variation, where instead of fries, you get rice.
-Very old fashioned style chicken
-Pretty friendly owners
-VERY dirty inside…especially the washroom
-Fries are frozen (probably)
-Chicken was alright, but I don’t think it’s worth all of the rave
-Pricey for what you get
Closing Comments: I’ll admit, it’s slightly better than KFC or Church’s, but it’s not that great overall.
